This
four part choral piece (SATB) was composed by Martin Shaw, for the 1923 Annual
Festival of the Rochester Church Choirs Association. It has that ringing quality
which is loved by choral singers and audiences alike.
Martin,
Edward Fallas Shaw was born in London in 1875. He studied at the Royal College
of Music, and became organist for St Martin in the Fields. As such he could have
been known by, and would certainly have known, Arthur Sullivan.
Our
arrangement of Martin's composition is used in our Home Page because it sums up
one of the main objects of our web-site - with a voice of singing, let it be
heard.
Hope you like it, and will grab a copy of the anthem to sing
along with us. If you can't get a copy from your local library or
music bookshop . . .
Well, it's very
humable! or whistleable!
isn't it . . .?

a Voice of Singing
With
a voice of singing
Declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia.
Declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia.
Utter it even unto the ends of the earth.
The Lord hath delivered his people, Alleluia.
The Lord hath delivered his people, Alleluia.
O be joyful in God, all ye lands,
O sing praises to the honour of his name,
Make his praise to be glorious.
With
a voice of singing
Declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia.
Declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia.
Alleluia, Declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia.
