The Worlds of Gilbert and Sullivan

Trial by Jury was Premiered 25 March 1875 in the Opera Comique, London. In it Gilbert glances over his shoulder to student days as a hopeful barrister, and gently laughs at the serious business of the British legal system. This opera firmly established the G&S partnership. Their shortest opera, it contains no spoken dialogue and brims over with sparkle and high spirits. Arthur's brother Fred played the part of The Learned Judge.
