| Trial by Jury was Premiered 25 March 1875 in the Opera Comique, London. In it Gilbert glances over his shoulder to student days as a hopeful barrister, and gently laughs at the serious business of the British legal system. This opera firmly established the G&S partnership. Their shortest opera, it contains no spoken dialogue and brims over with sparkle and high spirits. Arthur's brother Fred played the part of The Learned Judge. Here are some tunes from this splendid world shaking first (well, nearly first 1) successful comic opera from our intrepid trio.
