Time's Up?
Graceful Dance
Peasants' Dance

Phyllis's ballad The Time Has Come, from Dorothy, is also (uncommonly) graced by a chorus of 'Old Women'! You can here them singing (and dancing) in the end section. Do we suspect Will' Shakespeare's witches to have inspired this scene?

In this lovely mezzo-soprano ballad we also get a small glimpse into a male dominated period when young ladies weren't supposed to have ideas of this sort! (Although such thoughts must have gone through girls' heads up until very recent times.) Still do . . .?

The Time Has Come

The time has come when I must yield
The liberty I loved so well,
To him to whom my heart revealed,
Sighed forth the love I dare not tell.
My love, my life, I freely give,
Myself and all that in me is,
Henceforth in happiness to live
For him alone as only his.
Ah!
But liberty to me so dear
I now resign without a fear
But liberty so dear
Now I resign without fear
Without a fear.

They say, when wooing days are o'er,
And there is nothing left to gain,
That turtles coo their love no more,
And honeymoons get on the wane:
But I will bind him to my heart,
With love that shall not fly too soon,
And life shall be till death us part,
One everlasting honeymoon.
Ah!
Phyllis:  And liberty to me so dear
Old Women: Eh! eh! eh! Tho' feeble we be,

P: I now resign without a fear
O W: Better than that we can dance you'll see,

P: But liberty so dear
O W: Eh! eh! eh! Tho' feeble we be,

P: Now I resign without fear
O W: Better than that, Better than that,

P: Without a fear.
O W: Better than that we can dance you'll see.

Can you feel your toes tapping with them? Young or old, feel free!

How about joining in a:  Graceful Dance . . .?
