Solveig's Song

Solveig (or Solvejg) is Peer's childhood sweetheart. They pledge their love to each other before he sets out on his world-wide travels.

This beautiful song, declaring her confidence that he will return to her, forms the whole of Scene 10 in Act 4. It is also played as an orchestral prelude to Act3 Scene 3. As they both age throughout the play we see them both in mature years at the end; she still as faithful, he much the wiser.

You must see and hear the whole play to fully appreciate the poignancy of this piece. However several top sopranos have also recorded English concert versions of the song.

Here is our instrumental arrangement of Edvard's  masterpiece. Hope it inspires favourable reactions in you . . .
