The
words of Then You'll Remember Me were written by Alfred Bunn for the part of
Arline's gypsy lover to be played by the tenor William Harrison in the show The
Bohemian Girl. Usually Michael
Balfe could knock off a tune to a lyric immediately, but on this one he
faltered. He tried six or seven times but all were rejected by Alfred. Late one
night it came to him and rushed round to Alfred, waking him and shouting
"I've got it, I've got it"! (An update on eureka!). He played this
tune to the bleary eyed Alfred and it later swept the country.
Hope you enjoy singing it along with us

Then
You'll Remember Me
(When Other lips)
When
other lips and other hearts
Their tales of love shall tell,
In language whose excess imparts
The pow'r they feel so well,
There may perhaps in such a scene,
Some recollection be,
Of days that have as happy been,
And you'll remember me,
And you'll remember, you'll remember me.
When
coldness or deceit shall slight
The beauty now they prize,
And deem it but a faded light
Which beams within your eyes,
When hollow hearts shall wear a mask,
'Twill break your own to see,
In such a moment I but ask
That you'll remember me,
That you'll remember, you'll remember me.
