C ertainly music is one of the most emotive sensations. It charms lovers; arouses armies; and inspires sports teams. Parents sing lullabies to their infants. Primitive peoples communicate danger (or welcome) over long distances with their animal/bird sounds and Jungle Drums. And anyone who has seen a Jaws film or a horror movie will tell you how the background music can make the flesh creep.I n this series we will look at who produces these great sounds for us, how it has developed over the years, and how we ourselves can use this knowledge to our own (and charitable organisations‘) advantage.The universal language called music is something we all enjoy. These Web Stories started life as shows performed by The Village Singers. They tell us how Music, Musicals, ShowTime and Entertainment have developed over the years, and draw their information from many excellent sources. Lots of us want to know about the worlds of our great composers. In this first instalment we take a look at the Gilbert & Sullivan era, take part in their story and learn about their music, their friends and rivals, and their lives and times.
So here goes . . . William S was a brilliant artist and story teller as well as having many other gifts. All these he brought to bear on the shows he produced with the gifted musician Arthur Sullivan, for the intelligent entrepreneur Richard D'Oyly Carte. We shall meet all these people and many others on our quest for their music and stories throughout this web-site . . .
