Felix,
like many other artists and musicians, was fascinated with the genius of William
Shakespeare. All these hundreds of years later, Midsummer Night's Dream
is one of William's most famous and best loved plays.
When
he was 17 years old Mendelssohn wrote an overture in E major to this superb play
(his opus 21).
Seventeen years later he added several other items (opus 61) for a production of
the play in Potsdam. Here are a couple of tunes from superb music.
Now's the time to get that volume
of Shakespeare off your shelf (or from your local library) and dig out 'A
Midsummer Night's Dream' to see for yourself what inspired our Felix!
