I Love Him
Home

Up
Trial by Village!
Love-sick Boy
All Hail Great Judge!
Judge's Song
I Love Him
Oh Gentlemen Listen!
A Nice Dilemma

This fast moving romp of duet with chorus is obviously influenced by Offenbach's gallop music. It is a delightful piece of musical theatre, and is sung by Angelina (the plaintiff), Edwin (the defendant), and joined by all on stage as the chorus.

I Love Him

(Plaintiff) - I love him, I love him,
With fervour increasing,
I worship and madly adore;
My blind adoration is ever increasing,
My loss I shall ever deplore.
Oh, see what a blessing,
What love and caressing
I've lost, and remember, it pray,
When you I'm addressing, are busy assessing
The damages Edwin must pay.
Yes, he__ must__ pay!

(Defendant) - I smoke like a furnace,
I'm always in liquor,
A ruffian, a bully, a sot;
I'm sure I should thrash her,
Perhaps I should kick her,
I am such a very bad lot!
I'm not prepossessing,
As you may be guessing,
She couldn't endure me a day:
Re-call my professing, when you are assessing
The damages Edwin must pay!

(Plaintiff) - Yes, he__ must__ pay.

Chorus - We would be fairly acting,
But this is most distracting!
If when in liquor, he would kick her,
That is an abatement,
If when in liquor, he would kick her,
That is an abatement___.
(joined by the two soloists singing their own previous lines - I love him, I love him . . . etc and I'm sure I should thrash her . . . etc)

The final chorus takes a bit of sorting out without the vocal score. But it's great fun to sing, and to listen to.

Hope you joined in with the fun!

How about Edwin's appeal:  Oh Gentlemen Listen next . . .?
