Gabriel's Recitative
Uriel's Recitative

Gabriel's recitative: And God said Let earth bring forth grass, is sublimely peaceful and gentle. Sung by the soprano lead, it is the precursor to what has been described as one of the loveliest arias in the repertoire.

And God Said: Let The earth bring forth grass
(Und Gott sprach: Es bringe die Erde Gras hervor, . .)

And
God said: . . .
Und Gott sprach:
Let the earth bring forth grass, . .
Es brin-ge die Er-de Gras her-vor, . .
The herb yielding seed
Kräu-ter, die Sa-men ge-ben
And the fruit tree yielding fruit
Und Obst-bäu-me, die Früch-te bringen
After his kind,
Ih-rer Art ge-mäss,
Whose seed is in itself upon the earth;
Die ih-ren Sa-men in sich selbst ha-ben auf der Er-de;
And it was so.
Und es ward so.

Why wait? What about going straight into the lovely soprano aria: With verdure clad the fields appear . . .?
