Richard D'Oyly Carte founded a dynasty which was developed by his wife Helen, followed by his son Rupert, and Rupert's daughter Bridget.

Richard, whose foresight founded the D'Oyly Carte dynasty and the Savoy Operas. He was also a brilliant strategist building and developing the Savoy Hotel and other entrepreneurial projects.

Richard's second wife Helen was the business brains behind The Savoy and its progression. Her fortitude ensured its success beyond the lives of W S Gilert and Arthur Sullivan.

Rupert D'Oyly Carte was the main drive behind the post-war revival period. He updated costumes, scenery and presentation, whilst maintaining the essential character of the operas.

Bridget D'Oyly Carte held the Company together during the 50's - 70's. During this very successful period the shows grew more popular than ever. But she had the very difficult task of supervising the Savoyards whilst seeing the end of copyright on the shows.
