Franz Liszt's Consolations are beautifully crafted piano pieces composed in 1850, which are easy on the ear and calming to the mind. The term Consolation means nocturne (night music), and the peaceful nature of the six pieces is depicted in this short composition (the fifth of his miniature masterpieces). Franz was in great demand as a pianist in many parts of the world, and his visits to England were rapturously received. His Consolations were among the highlight of his popular concerts. Sit back and wallow in the two minutes of lovely music produced by this master-musician. This MusicSmiles arrangement is written in the key of E major, but there are also other simpler arrangements of the piece in F major, if you are dying to have an initial go at playing it yourself (see MusicSmiles bibliography). Dancers in our midst will no doubt be itching to create a dance to fit the swings of mood. If so, feel free - go on, nobody's watching!
