Anitra's Dance occurs during the course of Peer's wanderings in Africa (Act 4 Scene 6). He encounters a group of Arab girls, who greet him as the Prophet. One of them, a beautiful Arab girl called Anitra, performs this dance for his entertainment. Described as a mazurka, it is also used as a dance by Adelina in the Robert Wright and George Forrest stage show 'Song of Norway'.
The music for Anitra's Dance is often set as an examination piece for the piano. On this occasion, though, we hope you will just sit back and enjoy our MusicSmiles arrangement of Edvard's evocative masterpiece, or dance to it if you wish. The imagery should also encourage some exciting artwork about this subject, we hope . . . And finally listening to Edvard's Solveig's Song . . .? |
