| This wonderful and intricate piece is sometimes referred to as a Quartet and Chorus; at other times a Sextet and Chorus; and sometimes delicately as a Sestet and Chorus! Whatever its title (and it is a sure bet that G&S didn't give it one) it is a superb musical gem. You will probably need access to the Vocal Score to follow all the parts. Why not get a copy from your local library? It's worth it! Or, if you prefer, just listen to the weaving of the music in this MusicSmiles arrangement, and imagine them trying to unravel the court-case quandary. It's a hoot! A Nice Dilemma Judge: A
nice dilemma we have here, Counsel: And at this stage, Defendant: If I to wed the girl
am loth - Plaintiff: And if he goes and
marries both - Above Quartet + Usher & Foreman in harmony: A
nice dilemma we have here Above Sextet plus SATB Chorus in harmony: A nice
dilemma we have here Usher: Silence
in Court, silence in Court! Can you hear the Usher trying to restore some sort of order to the rather unruly scene? In the end it all resolves itself in a rather surprising way, but not before audience (and cast) have had a great deal of musical fun! We hope you have enjoyed our Village Presentation of Gilbert & Sullivan's Trial by Jury.
