The Worlds of Gilbert and Sullivan


 

 

The proposal from Richard D'Oyly Carte to our two heroes was to write some shows for the English stage. The fun-loving Arthur Sullivan responded to W S Gilbert's libretto for  . . . but all that's in the full site story! This was an age of great technological development, the railway system being a prime example. Click the picture of an engine to read a thrilling story about Hellfire Jack! a real life Victorian railway hero.

This attached little tune: Tit Willow  is from their famous show, The Mikado,which at the height of their powers  . . . but that's all to come later too!

The fanfare on this page is our arrangement of 'Miya Sama' from the G&S opera 'The Mikado'
